Enjoy a magical filled evening at The Embassy Suites Convention Center with a plantation buffet, singing by the Plantation Singers, Storytelling by Sharon Murray and music by DJ Rob. This event also features a silent auction. All proceeds benefit the CPCA Scholarship, which partially funds all students attending Capers Prep.

The two students that graduated in May, 2009 are doing great. They are already settled into their dorms. Jasmine and Nigel have registered for their classes and will start soon. The two are very excited about being Freshmen.

The First Week of School

The first week of school was great. The students were excited and ready to get back to work. Our days started at 8 a.m. and ended at 2 p.m. The educational tone was alive in the building. Not one student complained of returning early. "We want to the be the best that we can be; therefore, learning is our first priority," stated Joslin. Joslin is a senior that wants to open her own restaurant. She plans on attending college in the fall of 2010 to study culinary arts.

I am the mother of Charnae Patterson, a kindergarten student at Capers. I send my daughter to Capers because it is a good Christian school where my child will get a good education from teachers who will work with parents.

From career week, my daughter has decided she will be a judge when she grows up. My dream for her is to do well at Capers, go on to college and be the judge she wants to be.

After just one year at Capers, my daughter is more outspoken (in a good way), loves to read and loves her school.

Coming to Capers has changed my life tremendously. Not only in the classroom but outside of the classroom, too. Since I've been to Capers, I have been studying and working hard. When I was in public school, you could never tell me to study and work hard because to me that was a foreign language.

I don't like coming to Capers, I absolutely LOVE IT. I love it because we get that one-on-one time with the teachers if need it. Not only do we get classroom education, we also get outside of the classroom education. We go on trips that for most of us is a once-in-a-lifetime chance. Capers prep is an amazing school.

When I grow up, I want to be an educator. Not only do I want to be an educator, I also want to be a reacher. I want to REACH the lives of everyone I educate.

History
Capers Preparatory Christian Academy (CPCA or Capers) was founded in June, 2003 on Johns Island, South Carolina by Dr. Fayrine Brown. Our mission is to help at-risk young people – and their families – use education as the foundation for a better life. CPCA emphasizes reading, writing and math. As a result, our school’s average SAT score is 1150, 164 points higher than the state average.

Dr. Brown has served as an assistant principal and teacher for SC public and private schools. She holds a state educator’s certificate with several endorsements, including superintendent, supervisor, early childhood, etc.

Dr. Brown earned her doctorate from Nova Southeastern in the area of Educational Leadership. She has taught and directed in the school systems for thirty years. Dr. Brown also has a BA degree, two master degrees, and an educational specialist degree. She has a passion to raise the bar in education and help reduce dropout rates.

Dr. Brown is founder and owner of Educational Therapy, LLC.

Commitment
Capers currently serves 49 students. We have a nine month school year calendar with 6.5 hours of structured learning daily, Monday through Friday.

Since opening, all of our graduates have been accepted into college programs. Our success to-date is attributed to the talent and passion of our teachers, parents, students, and the commitment of community members as well as those, near and far, who have shown support through donating their time, their resources and their financial support. We could not provide for our students without their ongoing help.
